Ahhh, Missionaries

We had the chance to feed the Elders on Thursday, and it was so fun.  I have to be honest, when I get this kind of opportunity, I miss my days of being a missionary just a bit.  For several reasons. (This seems like an entry for my blog about my past, but it's how I was feeling on Thursday after they left.)

Stuff I Miss:

The friendships.

The stuff that is normal, but seems so funny or silly as a missionary.

The inside jokes.
(Sorry but these three photos are inside jokes and I can't explain them right now.  You know how inside jokes go. Plus they are probably only funny to those involved, like most inside jokes are.)

The Missionaries who can really teach at Zone Conference.

The members who are SOOOO COOL!!

District meetings.

Tracking into a great potential member, and teaching by the spirit.

Witnessing a baptism.

Tours at the VC.

Lunch at ZC and the sisters from the Stake who provide it, and singing to them.

Transfers, such a bitter and sweet time.

Personal scripture study.

MAIL.  The old fashioned stuff.

Stuff I Don't Miss:

Wearing a dress everyday.

Riding a bike in a dress.

Misplacing my tag. (I know right where it is right now... ironically.)

Bible bashing, disagreeing on doctrine.

Not being able to see or call my family.  (So glad I can do that when ever I want to now.)

Feeling like I don't fit in. (Even my kids didn't have a hard time picking me out in this one.)

The other day on my way home from the splash park, I was all choked up over a country song about "You're Gonna Miss This" and the same applies to my missionary days.  Not my college days or high school days, weirdly enough.  But I wish I could have that experience like the guy in 17 Again.  A Do-Over.  Just to see if I could do a better job with the knowledge I have now.  Oh well.  So the lyrics to the chorus of Trace Atkin's song goes like this:

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

So there it is.

AWESOME memories from my end too!! I like the snail mail too! Waited for it every week! Unfortunately there are always 'do overs' we'd like to do---such is life-you have lead a great life-keep it up! Love you!
That is so great that you got to go on a mission! Fun pictures!

I LOVE this post! And that song is sooo true, I do miss it! That's one part of my life I would totally do over...with exactly the same outcome! Awesome experiences all around! Thanks for taking me down memory lane in Omaha!!!! I love that we've found each other and other missionaries/members from the mission!

That picture of you riding the bike is HILARIOUS! I can't imagine how awkward that was.....no side saddling on a bike, eh?
