SPOILER! My Reaction to the Film

It raked in a little over 70 million it's opening weekend, and I am not sure about what it will do overseas, but we can guess it will be just as popular. For a low budget film {they spent only 37 million}here are my personal opinions about Twilight the Movie!

These are in no particular order.....

--I loved Charlie and Billy's attempt at youth lingo. It cracked me up. It seemed naturally awkward, which is how adults sound when they try to seem hip and aren't.
--Bella's mom came across as perfectly flimsy-whimsical carefree to me.
--I love when Bella accidently opens the door into Jacob and knocks him around a bit.
--Bad Hair Jacob. Enough said.
--The Vollyball scene was hysterical. I loved it. Totally Bella. I had forgotten about that scene a bit.

--MY FAVORITE SCENE!!!!!! When the Cullens come into the cafeteria, I thought it was perfect. Each actor looking exactly like their character would/did for me in the books. Rosalie-so stuffy and gorgious and so vain, Emmett--(what is with the eggs??)so masculine, like the guy who is the funniest linebacker in high school...Alice--annoyingly happy and pixie-like and graceful with Jasper--who SHOULD and DID look pained the entire movie. {Truly if you consider his situation, how he is new to veggie life and his ability's downside-feeling everyone's emotions- he should look pained...}
--Charlies house was a happy blue, not what I had pictured, but the floor plan worked for me. I know it didn't for everyone, but it worked for me.
--I didn't notice the music---much.....because WHERE was it????!!!! We heard a nice piece for Bella's lullaby, but sadly no comment from Esme about it! BUMMER! There seemed to be lots of silence, and none of the songs that have been big hits for "unofficial" Twilight songs. Maybe there is more than I noticed, I have only seen it once.
--I noticed the eye colors a bit, and thought it was fine. Is doing Amber, Black and Red eye color hard?? I don't know, I know little about film and computer graphics.
-- I Love the science teacher! He was perfect, but had a bigger part/more lines than some of our CULLENS! That sucked!
--Who didn't LOVE the Google line! That was awesome! Hilarious!!
--I was totally disappointed that we didn't get any scenes from the Cullen's or Edward's perspective. You can and should do that with a movie. I love that we don't have it in the books so much, but a movie would have been a fantastic time to show us the "behind the scenes' at the Cullens. Plus it would have added to their Character development.
--There was hardly ANY character development on the Cullens, another understandable but huge let down for me. We don't get their back stories in book one right of the bat, heck some stories we don't get until Eclipse, but we should have received some validating scenes for the Cullens IMO.
--Which brings me to say,'WHERE WAS Emmett's line about "she's not one of us?" That line has been on previews and all over the internet!
--Rainere Beer... different--local thing maybe? That is fine.
--Noticed the one very red apple. Very suiting.
--Sadly, I laughed every time at Jacob. The hair looked fake and awful. The other two Quiluete boys looked more real, because I believe their hair was real.

--The waitresses hair in the restaurant was HIDEOUS See her there in the background? And Edward looked at her! Big faux pas(sp?) I think. That would have been a simple movie thing to do. All he had to do was kindly respond to her question all the while looking only at Bella. But funny to hear about money and sex, money and sex and CATS?? Funny.
--Stephanie Meyer's cameo was short and STUPID! Why didn't they at least give her a short line, like 'thanks'??
--Ed and Bella in the rain... Bella was dry and Rob was dripping. Weird, what a weird thing. It was so noticeable that he was soaking, and she wasn't at all.
--The glittering in the sun scene--so forceful, unlike the book. That is okay, I am okay with differences, but I didn't like how it made him look fat in the face for me. I don't know. Seemed subtle and I pictured more dramatic glitter, rainbows casting everywhere.
--Rob produced that adorable crooked Edward smile and that made me happy.
--I really liked the flashback and dream scenes. Amen.

--I loved the Baseball scene... and so did my DH. When Bella actually gets Rosalie out, WOW. That was intense.
--Fleeing the baseball scene, Bella assumes she is being hunted, which is fine, but didn't quite work for me. But I did LOVE how she got all frustrated and said "I got it" in regards to the seat belt.
--I did jump when Edward jumped onto her truck, and then again when Emmett did. Very good.
--The fight scene, in my opinion kicked butt!!!!! I loved the action. So did DH. But I had scene a hundred times. So it was anti-climatic a bit because they released that scene so early on.
--Edwards room was very little, not what I pictured, and a huge mess... that was a little weird.
--Esme and Carlisle were captured by they actors perfectly I think, along with the Cullens, Mike Newton, Jessica, Eric and Angela.
--What the boob scene for the prom dress!
Photobucket
--FIRST KISS Scene.. Hold real still. Don't move....LOVE IT! It had great build up I thought, making me feel all giddy for first kisses again, but the weird, abrupt stop when Edward jumps back with such force was harsh. I like that he explained he can't ever loose control with her, but I thought it would have been better to say why too, as she doesn't know why he can't just let loose.
--Okay, I have mentioned Jacob's hair was TERRIBLE right? But I also hated the closing scene of his where he goes to the prom. I DID love his happy face, his great smile and teeth. He will be a great character if they can fix the hair!
--Which brings me to: I think the costume department did really well! There were lots of things I loved seeing on the characters that I thought were perfect....hair and makeup well, they need help, but costumes were good! But this also brings me to : WHY create the CULLEN family CREST if they don't do anything/say anything about it???
--James was perfectly scary! Every time he breathed in I got chills. He came off as a great hunter.
--Victoria is wicked! And her last scene there was a perfect lead into....The New Moon MOVIE!!!
A few more pics I found and liked!

I think we really got a good look at how much Rose hates Bella at first.

LOOK HOW HAPPY HE LOOKS! The first time we see him come into the cafeteria he looks sad, angry, empty. And we know why, and then when he finally decides to be with Bella,
the happiness he experiences is awesome!

Yes, they are doing NEW MOON! If you don't believe me, check out Stephanie's website!
I think if you hadn't read the books you may have been lost a bit. Knowing the full story really helped because they left so much unexplained.

I have spent over an hour on the phone talking about it so far, and I really need to get on with my housework!

I love Twilight! I haven't been obsessed for a while about it {thank goodness} but it's fun to step back into the Twilight world. I hope that since Summit was a lower budget company, and that now they are making money on the Twilight movie, they can afford to do more/do better with New Moon. Better wig for Jacob...or just go with short hair. He doesn't have to have long hair. WHy try to follow something like that from the book when it looks bad??? And I really hope all the cast doesn't change. A change in character(s) is always hard for audiences, except with Bond, James Bond.

I agree with you on most of your thoughts. And I DO hope the next one is better. I would not have given it an 8, though--my opinion.
I am guessing they used contacts for all the eye colors, but I could be wrong. I could see Edward's contacts at one point. I'll talk to you later.

I wish I had more time to break it down like you did. Thing is if I did it would almost mirror yours. Jacobs hair was horrible, but if you ignore that Taylor did a great job. I may even like New Moon just cuz he seems great. (keeping in mind I really dis-like NM!)

p.s. You are great!

Scott and I just saw it today and we liked it. I totally agree with you on Jacob's hair. It was a very bad wig. We can't wait for more.
