Surgery Day

For medical reasons, I had a hysterectomy on September 18th.Since then, it's been a roller coaster ride.

I checked into the hospital at 5:30 in the morning, with Kyle by my side. Dr. Hall and his assistant Stacy performed the surgery at 7:30. The next thing I really remember was waking up at around 9:30 or 10 and getting to see Kyle. I felt pretty good for most of the day, but by evening the effects of the surgery were starting to kick in. And, I was starving! But I was restricted to a liquid diet for 24 hours. By the time I left there, I was sick of broth and apple juice.

The nurse took a lot of convincing before she would let me have some over-the-counter, old-fashioned ibuprofen. Once I got some, the pain subsided. (They had me on Percocet.)

Thursday morning, Dr. Hall came in to see me and was happy to report that my surgery went really well. He said that I was allowed to go home, but that I would need to take it very easy for 6 weeks. My restrictions are pretty tight. There are a lot of things I'm not allowed to do, but going for a walk is allowed, and encouraged.

On Sunday, I went for my walk. I only made it as far as halfway down the block before I felt a sharp pain in my left calf. I finished my walk, despite the pain. I came home and got my kids ready for church, and a chicken tossed in the crock pot. I then retired to the couch for the remainder of the day.
Around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, I was fairly confident I had come down with a yeast infection. When Kyle got home from church in meetings, he took me into the ER.

They confirmed that I did not have a blood clot in my leg, and took a urine sample. They went ahead and gave me some medication to treat the infection and sent me home. They told me they would call if my urine analysis came back positive for anything.

Needless to say, by Tuesday I was in severe pain. Kyle did an amazing job at taking care of me through the night. Running to Walgreens for medications and prescriptions at 2:00 a.m..

By Wednesday morning, I was so sick that I knew something was wrong enough that I needed to see a doctor. I called Dr. Hall's office and related everything that happened since Sunday. The nurse told me she would contact the hospital immediately to see what she could find out. She called me back to inform me that my urine analysis was positive for e.coli & e.faecalis {two nasty bacterias} and that I had a severe bladder infection. Because of this, they wanted me to come in right away. I'm not sure why the hospital never called me back. Oh well.

Knowing that I had had a bladder infection for 2 days now explains why I have been feeling so horrible. The e.coli was the cause of the serious nausea that I was -still- experiencing.
A quick visit to see Stacy, and then I was on my way to pick up five different prescriptions in an effort to solve four different problems.

Thankfully, I am improving. The nausea is still very persistent. But its been 24 hours, & I can tell that I am getting better. Hopefully the worst of it is behind me now.

We've been spoiled rotten by family and friends. We've had meals brought in, treats delivered, dishes done, floors mopped, texts and phone calls.... All of it reassuring how loved we are. I am very grateful for those good people in my life who are taking care of me and my family at this time.
